Choosing the correct type of survey to suit your needs is essential. The following

information may help:-

Management Survey

The purpose of this survey is to locate as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any suspect asbestos containing materials in the building and assess their condition. Representative samples are collected and analysed for the presence of asbestos. Samples from each suspect asbestos containing material will be analysed to confirm or refute the surveyors judgement. Other similar materials that are homogenous or replicate to those sampled can be strongly presumed to contain asbestos. The fabric of the building will not be broken into during this survey, however a reasonable amount of intrusive inspection will take place..

SURVEYS

The team at Independent Environmental Ltd. have many years of experience of surveying buildings for asbestos and Brett Millward our lead surveyor holds the following qualification:-

• BOHS P402 “Building surveys and bulk sampling for asbestos”

• BOHS P405 “Management of asbestos in buildings”

• RSPH Level 3 “Certificate in asbestos inspection procedures”

• CITB Practical competence in asbestos inspections

Brett Millward our lead surveyor was one of the few people in the country to attain to NIACS certification, a UKAS accredited certification (ISO 17024) for individual surveyors. As this certification scheme is no longer running our lead surveyor will be pursuing the new ABICS certification (ISO 17024) as soon as it becomes available.

We are insured for all types of surveys with Miles Smith Insurance (details on request).

Refurbishment and demolition surveys

This type of survey is used to locate and describe as far as reasonably practicable, all asbestos containing materials in the building and may involve a destructive inspection, as necessary, to gain access to all areas, including those difficult to reach. A full sampling programme is undertaken to identify possible ACMs and estimates of the surface area of asbestos containing materials is made.

This survey does not assess the condition of asbestos containing materials. This survey should be undertaken prior to any major refurbishment or demolition. Damage to the building will likely be caused during this survey and no provision within the quote is made for re-instatement which must be arranged where necessary by the client.
